August, 2002
In 2002, a new Neil Gaiman book was released: Coraline. Storme is a big Gaiman fan, and if I'm less of a fan I still really liked his Sandman comics, so we jumped at the chance to turn up at one of his signings and finally meet the guy.The last two signings were due to be held in London, but we decided they'd probably be too busy to be worthwhile; instead, I took the Tuesday off work and we had a nice day trip to Canterbury signing. (We also got tickets for a televised interview with Neil on the Friday, but we weren't sure if it would be possible to get anything signed then.)
Canterbury is extremely pretty, with a preponderance of rambling old stone buildings. I was highly amused at the olde-worlde charms of this car showroom, for instance.
Even the Starbuck's blends into the quaint surroundings.
The city walls are kind of dull, however. Therefore I began to spend less time photographing the scenery and more time trying to get a good shot of Storme, seen here attemping to duck out of sight.
I will have you, my pretty!
There is no escape!
But all too soon it was time to gather at Waterstone's for the signing. Neil Gaiman was waiting for us!
